Volume where age took it — placed by a physician who treats your face as a structure, not a checklist of syringes.
Dermal fillers replace volume. That single sentence separates them from Botox, which relaxes muscles. If a line is visible when your face is completely still, it is usually a volume or structural problem — and that is filler territory.
Faces do not simply wrinkle as they age. They deflate. The fat pads that give a young face its smooth transitions shrink and slide downward; bone itself remodels and recedes, particularly around the eye socket and jaw. The result reads as tired or drawn even when the skin is in good condition. Filler is how we put that scaffolding back.
Different fillers have genuinely different physical properties — thickness, lift capacity, flexibility, and how long they last. Matching product to tissue is most of the skill.
Hyaluronic acid is a sugar molecule your body already produces, which binds water and holds tissue plump. HA fillers are gels of stabilized HA — and crucially, they are reversible with an enzyme if you are ever unhappy.
Sculptra works differently. Instead of filling space, poly-L-lactic acid prompts your own body to build collagen over several months. Results arrive gradually and last longer — often two years or more — which suits patients who want change nobody can date.
Kybella dissolves fat under the chin, and Botox relaxes movement lines. Many patients come in asking for filler and leave with a plan that combines two treatments — or one that does not include filler at all.
Filler is not a commodity procedure. Where product sits relative to bone, muscle, and vasculature decides whether a result looks refreshed or overdone. At Modern Aesthetica the founder and medical director, Dr. Daniel Moghadam, performs the injections himself rather than delegating to a technician.
We do not begin with a product. We begin with what is actually happening in your face — where volume has gone, how your skin behaves when it moves, how light falls across your cheekbones. The right filler follows from that. Sometimes the answer is a different treatment entirely, and we will say so.
We would rather place less and refine at your follow-up than overfill. Hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved if needed, but a face that has been overcorrected takes real time to recover its proportions.
Fillers are priced per syringe. You will know how many syringes are planned and what the total is before anything is injected. Current offers are on our promotions page.
Dr. Moghadam assesses your facial structure at rest and in motion, identifies where volume has been lost, and explains which product suits that tissue and why.
Most fillers contain lidocaine, and we apply topical numbing beforehand. Comfort is genuinely manageable for the great majority of patients.
Product is placed through a fine needle or a blunt cannula depending on the area. Most treatments run 20 to 45 minutes.
You will see the change in a mirror before you leave. Mild swelling is normal and settles over several days.
We assess the settled result and add product only if an area genuinely needs balancing.
Expect some swelling and the possibility of bruising — this is an injection, and the face is vascular. Most swelling resolves within three to five days, and the result you will keep is visible at about two weeks.
Call us at (213) 895-4730 if you develop unusual pain, blanching or dusky discoloration of the skin, or vision changes. These are rare, but they are treated urgently — one more reason to be injected by a physician.
Most patients find it very manageable. Nearly all modern fillers include lidocaine, and we apply topical numbing cream before starting. You will feel pressure and a brief pinch at each entry point. Lip treatments are the most sensitive area and we take extra care there.
Most people return to work the same or next day. Expect mild swelling for three to five days, and possible bruising for up to a week. If you have an important event, book at least two weeks ahead so the result has fully settled.
Hyaluronic acid fillers — the Juvederm and Restylane families — can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase, usually within a day or two. This is a meaningful safety advantage and one reason we favor HA products for most patients. Collagen stimulators such as Sculptra are not reversible, which is why we dose them gradually.
Pricing is per syringe, and how many syringes you need depends on the area and the degree of volume loss. Lips typically take one syringe; restoring mid-face volume often takes two or more. We give you the exact syringe count and total at your complimentary consultation, before any treatment begins. Call (213) 895-4730 to schedule.
It depends on the product and where it is placed. Lip filler tends to last six to twelve months because the mouth is constantly in motion. Cheek and mid-face filler often lasts twelve to twenty-four months. Sculptra, which stimulates your own collagen, can last two years or more. Areas that move more metabolize filler faster.
Not when they are dosed to your anatomy. The overfilled look comes from chasing volume in the wrong plane — usually stacking product superficially in the cheeks year after year. We treat the underlying structure, use the minimum that achieves the goal, and review you at two weeks rather than injecting everything at once.
Botox relaxes the muscles that fold the skin, so it treats dynamic lines that appear when you move — forehead lines, frown lines, crow's feet. Fillers add volume, so they treat static lines and hollowing that are visible when your face is completely still. They solve opposite problems and are frequently used together.
There is no fixed age. Patients in their twenties often come for lip definition or chin balance rather than aging concerns. Patients in their sixties and beyond can see excellent results, though very advanced skin laxity is a surgical problem and filler alone will not fix it. What matters is what your face actually needs, which is what the consultation determines.
