Enough structure for deeply etched folds, enough flexibility to still look like your face in motion.
There is a point at which a nasolabial fold stops being a line and becomes a groove — visible even when the face is completely relaxed, with a defined shadow that photographs harshly. At that stage a soft filler will not hold the correction. The tissue needs something with genuine load-bearing capacity.
Restylane Defyne is built for that. It uses the same flexible XpresHAn technology as Refyne but at a firmer consistency, so it supports deeper folds while still permitting natural movement — the combination that is difficult to achieve with traditional firm fillers.
A recessed chin makes a profile look heavier and can make the nose appear larger than it is. Adding modest projection with Defyne often improves facial balance more than treating the nose would — and it takes minutes rather than surgery. It is one of the most satisfying uses of filler we perform.
Deep folds usually improve substantially. They rarely disappear completely, and any injector promising erasure is overselling.
A groove that has been etched for years has a component of true skin creasing, not just volume loss underneath. Filler lifts the base of the fold and softens the shadow, which is what makes the visible difference. The surface crease itself often needs skin-level treatment — RF microneedling or resurfacing — to improve further.
As with the fold itself, the cause frequently sits higher. If descended cheek fat is stacking against the nasolabial fold, supporting the mid-face with Voluma or Lyft may do more than filling the crease directly. We assess the whole face before choosing where to place product.
Filler is not a commodity procedure. Where product sits relative to bone, muscle, and vasculature decides whether a result looks refreshed or overdone. At Modern Aesthetica the founder and medical director, Dr. Daniel Moghadam, performs the injections himself rather than delegating to a technician.
We do not begin with a product. We begin with what is actually happening in your face — where volume has gone, how your skin behaves when it moves, how light falls across your cheekbones. The right filler follows from that. Sometimes the answer is a different treatment entirely, and we will say so.
We would rather place less and refine at your follow-up than overfill. Hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved if needed, but a face that has been overcorrected takes real time to recover its proportions.
Fillers are priced per syringe. You will know how many syringes are planned and what the total is before anything is injected. Current offers are on our promotions page.
Dr. Moghadam assesses your facial structure at rest and in motion, identifies where volume has been lost, and explains which product suits that tissue and why.
Most fillers contain lidocaine, and we apply topical numbing beforehand. Comfort is genuinely manageable for the great majority of patients.
Product is placed through a fine needle or a blunt cannula depending on the area. Most treatments run 20 to 45 minutes.
You will see the change in a mirror before you leave. Mild swelling is normal and settles over several days.
We assess the settled result and add product only if an area genuinely needs balancing.
Expect some swelling and the possibility of bruising — this is an injection, and the face is vascular. Most swelling resolves within three to five days, and the result you will keep is visible at about two weeks.
Call us at (213) 895-4730 if you develop unusual pain, blanching or dusky discoloration of the skin, or vision changes. These are rare, but they are treated urgently — one more reason to be injected by a physician.
Most patients find it very manageable. Nearly all modern fillers include lidocaine, and we apply topical numbing cream before starting. You will feel pressure and a brief pinch at each entry point. Lip treatments are the most sensitive area and we take extra care there.
Most people return to work the same or next day. Expect mild swelling for three to five days, and possible bruising for up to a week. If you have an important event, book at least two weeks ahead so the result has fully settled.
Hyaluronic acid fillers — the Juvederm and Restylane families — can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase, usually within a day or two. This is a meaningful safety advantage and one reason we favor HA products for most patients. Collagen stimulators such as Sculptra are not reversible, which is why we dose them gradually.
Pricing is per syringe, and how many syringes you need depends on the area and the degree of volume loss. Lips typically take one syringe; restoring mid-face volume often takes two or more. We give you the exact syringe count and total at your complimentary consultation, before any treatment begins. Call (213) 895-4730 to schedule.
Up to twelve months in the nasolabial folds and marionette lines for most patients. Used for chin augmentation it often lasts a similar length or slightly longer, since the chin moves less than the tissue around the mouth.
Yes — it is FDA-cleared for improving chin retrusion. Adding projection to a recessed chin can meaningfully rebalance a profile, often making the nose look more proportionate without treating the nose at all. It takes about twenty minutes and is fully reversible.
It will soften them substantially but rarely erase them entirely. Long-standing folds include a genuine skin crease as well as volume loss beneath, and filler addresses the volume component. Pairing filler with a skin-level treatment such as RF microneedling produces the most complete improvement.
It can be in very thin tissue, where a firmer product may show as a visible ridge. In those cases Refyne is usually the better choice, or Defyne placed deeper with a softer filler layered above. Dr. Moghadam assesses skin thickness during your consultation and selects accordingly.
