Reading a face as a structure rather than a list of complaints — which is what separates a refreshed result from an obviously treated one.
Patients usually arrive with a specific complaint — the lines here, the hollow there. Treating exactly what is pointed at, and nothing else, is the single commonest cause of results that look wrong.
A worked example. Someone points at a deep nasolabial fold and asks for filler in it. The fold is genuinely deep. But the reason it is deep is often that the cheek fat pad above has deflated and descended, piling tissue against the crease. Filling the crease directly adds weight to an area already carrying too much, and the face reads heavier rather than fresher.
Supporting the cheek instead frequently improves the fold without touching it. Same complaint, different intervention, considerably better outcome.
Botox — relaxes the muscles that fold skin. For dynamic lines: forehead, frown lines, crow's feet. Also for brow lift, lip flip, masseter slimming and jaw definition.
Dermal fillers — restore volume and define structure. Cheeks, lips, tear troughs, chin, jawline, and nasal profile.
Sculptra — stimulates your own collagen for gradual, longer-lasting volume across broader areas.
PDO threads — mechanically reposition mild to moderate descent.
RF microneedling and PRP — skin quality, which no injectable improves.
Kybella — permanently reduces submental fat.
Structure before surface. Volume before lines. Skin quality alongside rather than after. Treating in the wrong order means paying for corrections that a different first step would have made unnecessary.
Filler is not a commodity procedure. Where product sits relative to bone, muscle, and vasculature decides whether a result looks refreshed or overdone. At Modern Aesthetica the founder and medical director, Dr. Daniel Moghadam, performs the injections himself rather than delegating to a technician.
We do not begin with a product. We begin with what is actually happening in your face — where volume has gone, how your skin behaves when it moves, how light falls across your cheekbones. The right filler follows from that. Sometimes the answer is a different treatment entirely, and we will say so.
We would rather place less and refine at your follow-up than overfill. Hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved if needed, but a face that has been overcorrected takes real time to recover its proportions.
Fillers are priced per syringe. You will know how many syringes are planned and what the total is before anything is injected. Current offers are on our promotions page.
Dr. Moghadam assesses your facial structure at rest and in motion, identifies where volume has been lost, and explains which product suits that tissue and why.
Most fillers contain lidocaine, and we apply topical numbing beforehand. Comfort is genuinely manageable for the great majority of patients.
Product is placed through a fine needle or a blunt cannula depending on the area. Most treatments run 20 to 45 minutes.
You will see the change in a mirror before you leave. Mild swelling is normal and settles over several days.
We assess the settled result and add product only if an area genuinely needs balancing.
Most patients find it very manageable. Nearly all modern fillers include lidocaine, and we apply topical numbing cream before starting. You will feel pressure and a brief pinch at each entry point. Lip treatments are the most sensitive area and we take extra care there.
Most people return to work the same or next day. Expect mild swelling for three to five days, and possible bruising for up to a week. If you have an important event, book at least two weeks ahead so the result has fully settled.
Hyaluronic acid fillers — the Juvederm and Restylane families — can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase, usually within a day or two. This is a meaningful safety advantage and one reason we favor HA products for most patients. Collagen stimulators such as Sculptra are not reversible, which is why we dose them gradually.
Pricing is per syringe, and how many syringes you need depends on the area and the degree of volume loss. Lips typically take one syringe; restoring mid-face volume often takes two or more. We give you the exact syringe count and total at your complimentary consultation, before any treatment begins. Call (213) 895-4730 to schedule.
Usually because a single component was treated repeatedly in isolation — most often volume added to the front of the cheek year after year, without addressing skin quality or descent. Faces treated that way accumulate fullness in the wrong plane. Assessing the whole face and varying what you treat is what avoids it.
Sometimes something else, and this is the most useful thing a proper consultation gives you. A deep nasolabial fold is frequently caused by mid-face deflation rather than the fold itself — supporting the cheek can improve it without touching the crease. Filling the fold directly can make the lower face look heavier.
Often yes, where it is clinically appropriate — combining injectables with a skin treatment is common. Some combinations are better staged, and we will explain why if that applies. Patients travelling from further out are deliberately scheduled with extra time.
By being treated toward your own proportions rather than a template. The features that make you recognizable are worth preserving — and the current aesthetic fashion for very high, full cheeks does not suit every face. We treat what your face actually needs.
