What Makes Volbella Different

Volbella XC is the softest and least dense filler in the Juvederm range. It uses the same Vycross cross-linking as Voluma but at a much lower hyaluronic acid concentration, which produces a gel that integrates smoothly into delicate tissue instead of sitting as a distinct mass.

That property matters enormously in lips. A thick filler in a thin lip creates the firm, shelf-like upper lip that most patients are actively trying to avoid. Volbella spreads and softens, so it reads as a lip that is simply well-hydrated and defined.

It also binds less water than older HA products, which means less of the dramatic day-two swelling that makes people regret booking lip filler before an event.

Where Volbella works best

  • Lip definition — restoring a crisp vermilion border that has blurred with age
  • Subtle lip volume — hydration and shape rather than size
  • Perioral lines — the vertical "smoker's lines" above the upper lip
  • Cupid's bow — redefining the peaks that give the lip its character
  • Tear trough — its softness and low water-binding suit the under-eye in appropriate candidates

An Honest Word About Lip Filler

Lips are the most-requested and most-regretted filler area, so it is worth being direct.

Your lip has a natural ceiling. Anatomy — the length of your upper lip, the strength of the border, the ratio between upper and lower — sets how much volume can be added before it stops looking like your mouth. Good injecting respects that ceiling. Pushing past it is what produces results people notice for the wrong reason.

One syringe is usually enough to start. We would rather you come back in a month wanting slightly more than have you spend six months waiting for product to dissolve.

Swelling is not your result. Lips swell more than any other area. At 48 hours you will likely think it is too much. At two weeks you will see what you actually paid for. We ask patients not to judge the outcome before then.

It is reversible. Volbella is hyaluronic acid, so if you genuinely dislike it, we can dissolve it with hyaluronidase. Nobody is locked in.

Why Patients Choose Modern Aesthetica

Dr. Moghadam injects — personally

Filler is not a commodity procedure. Where product sits relative to bone, muscle, and vasculature decides whether a result looks refreshed or overdone. At Modern Aesthetica the founder and medical director, Dr. Daniel Moghadam, performs the injections himself rather than delegating to a technician.

Facial assessment before product selection

We do not begin with a product. We begin with what is actually happening in your face — where volume has gone, how your skin behaves when it moves, how light falls across your cheekbones. The right filler follows from that. Sometimes the answer is a different treatment entirely, and we will say so.

Conservative dosing, reviewed

We would rather place less and refine at your follow-up than overfill. Hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved if needed, but a face that has been overcorrected takes real time to recover its proportions.

Transparent pricing

Fillers are priced per syringe. You will know how many syringes are planned and what the total is before anything is injected. Current offers are on our promotions page.

Your Appointment, Step by Step

Consultation and facial mapping

Dr. Moghadam assesses your facial structure at rest and in motion, identifies where volume has been lost, and explains which product suits that tissue and why.

Numbing

Most fillers contain lidocaine, and we apply topical numbing beforehand. Comfort is genuinely manageable for the great majority of patients.

Injection

Product is placed through a fine needle or a blunt cannula depending on the area. Most treatments run 20 to 45 minutes.

Immediate review

You will see the change in a mirror before you leave. Mild swelling is normal and settles over several days.

Two-week follow-up

We assess the settled result and add product only if an area genuinely needs balancing.

What to Expect Afterward

Expect some swelling and the possibility of bruising — this is an injection, and the face is vascular. Most swelling resolves within three to five days, and the result you will keep is visible at about two weeks.

  • Stay upright for the first four hours and skip strenuous exercise for 24 hours
  • Avoid alcohol the day of treatment — it worsens bruising
  • Do not massage or press the area unless we specifically instruct you to
  • Arnica or a cold compress helps if you bruise easily
  • Stop fish oil, high-dose vitamin E, and NSAIDs a few days before if your doctor permits

Call us at (213) 895-4730 if you develop unusual pain, blanching or dusky discoloration of the skin, or vision changes. These are rare, but they are treated urgently — one more reason to be injected by a physician.

Juvederm Volbella Questions

Most patients find it very manageable. Nearly all modern fillers include lidocaine, and we apply topical numbing cream before starting. You will feel pressure and a brief pinch at each entry point. Lip treatments are the most sensitive area and we take extra care there.

Most people return to work the same or next day. Expect mild swelling for three to five days, and possible bruising for up to a week. If you have an important event, book at least two weeks ahead so the result has fully settled.

Hyaluronic acid fillers — the Juvederm and Restylane families — can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase, usually within a day or two. This is a meaningful safety advantage and one reason we favor HA products for most patients. Collagen stimulators such as Sculptra are not reversible, which is why we dose them gradually.

Pricing is per syringe, and how many syringes you need depends on the area and the degree of volume loss. Lips typically take one syringe; restoring mid-face volume often takes two or more. We give you the exact syringe count and total at your complimentary consultation, before any treatment begins. Call (213) 895-4730 to schedule.

Up to twelve months for most patients, though lips are one of the shorter-lasting areas because the mouth is in constant motion. Many patients choose a smaller top-up at eight to ten months rather than waiting for the filler to disappear entirely, which keeps the result consistent.

Volbella is specifically the product chosen when that is the concern. It is the softest filler in the Juvederm line and adds definition and hydration more than projection. Combined with conservative dosing — usually one syringe to start — the typical result is lips that look well-rested rather than treated.

Lips swell more than any other treated area. Expect noticeable swelling for the first 24 to 48 hours, easing substantially by day three and fully settled at two weeks. Sleeping slightly elevated and using a cold compress on the first evening helps. Do not book lip filler within two weeks of a wedding or photo shoot.

Often, yes. Fine vertical perioral lines respond well to small amounts of Volbella placed superficially, and restoring the vermilion border alone can visibly reduce them. Deep, long-standing lines in sun-damaged skin may also need a resurfacing treatment, and a small dose of Botox can help if strong lip-pursing is driving them.
