The lifting filler. Voluma rebuilds cheek projection — and because the mid-face supports everything beneath it, restoring it lifts the whole lower face.
When people say a face looks tired, they are usually reacting to the mid-face. The cheek is the keystone of facial structure: it holds light on the upper face and physically supports the tissue below it. When cheek fat pads deflate and descend, the effects cascade — nasolabial folds deepen, the jawline softens, and under-eye hollows appear.
Juvederm Voluma XC is the filler built specifically for that problem. It is a hyaluronic acid gel made with Vycross technology, which produces a firmer, more cohesive product with real lift capacity — the ability to project tissue forward and upward rather than simply occupy space.
This is why treating the cheek often improves lines nobody injected. Restore the support and the folds below relax on their own.
Voluma is placed deep, often against bone, using a cannula or needle depending on the zone. That depth is what makes it lift instead of look like a lump.
Voluma is the most robust of the Juvederm family. That makes it right for structure and wrong for delicate work.
Voluma lasts up to two years in the cheek, among the longest of the HA fillers — a function of its cross-linking and the relative stillness of the mid-face.
Filler is not a commodity procedure. Where product sits relative to bone, muscle, and vasculature decides whether a result looks refreshed or overdone. At Modern Aesthetica the founder and medical director, Dr. Daniel Moghadam, performs the injections himself rather than delegating to a technician.
We do not begin with a product. We begin with what is actually happening in your face — where volume has gone, how your skin behaves when it moves, how light falls across your cheekbones. The right filler follows from that. Sometimes the answer is a different treatment entirely, and we will say so.
We would rather place less and refine at your follow-up than overfill. Hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved if needed, but a face that has been overcorrected takes real time to recover its proportions.
Fillers are priced per syringe. You will know how many syringes are planned and what the total is before anything is injected. Current offers are on our promotions page.
Dr. Moghadam assesses your facial structure at rest and in motion, identifies where volume has been lost, and explains which product suits that tissue and why.
Most fillers contain lidocaine, and we apply topical numbing beforehand. Comfort is genuinely manageable for the great majority of patients.
Product is placed through a fine needle or a blunt cannula depending on the area. Most treatments run 20 to 45 minutes.
You will see the change in a mirror before you leave. Mild swelling is normal and settles over several days.
We assess the settled result and add product only if an area genuinely needs balancing.
Expect some swelling and the possibility of bruising — this is an injection, and the face is vascular. Most swelling resolves within three to five days, and the result you will keep is visible at about two weeks.
Call us at (213) 895-4730 if you develop unusual pain, blanching or dusky discoloration of the skin, or vision changes. These are rare, but they are treated urgently — one more reason to be injected by a physician.
Most patients find it very manageable. Nearly all modern fillers include lidocaine, and we apply topical numbing cream before starting. You will feel pressure and a brief pinch at each entry point. Lip treatments are the most sensitive area and we take extra care there.
Most people return to work the same or next day. Expect mild swelling for three to five days, and possible bruising for up to a week. If you have an important event, book at least two weeks ahead so the result has fully settled.
Hyaluronic acid fillers — the Juvederm and Restylane families — can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase, usually within a day or two. This is a meaningful safety advantage and one reason we favor HA products for most patients. Collagen stimulators such as Sculptra are not reversible, which is why we dose them gradually.
Pricing is per syringe, and how many syringes you need depends on the area and the degree of volume loss. Lips typically take one syringe; restoring mid-face volume often takes two or more. We give you the exact syringe count and total at your complimentary consultation, before any treatment begins. Call (213) 895-4730 to schedule.
Up to two years in the cheek for most patients, which is among the longest-lasting hyaluronic acid fillers available. Longevity depends on how much product was placed, your metabolism, and how much the area moves. Many patients come in for a smaller touch-up at eighteen months rather than a full re-treatment.
Most patients need one to two syringes per side for a visible, natural correction, so two to four syringes total is common for a first treatment. Significant volume loss may take more, and we sometimes stage it across two visits. You will get the exact plan and cost at your consultation before anything is injected.
Not when it is placed deep and in the correct anatomical position. Puffiness usually comes from product placed too superficially or from over-filling the front of the cheek instead of supporting the cheekbone. Voluma is designed to be placed on or near bone, which lifts the tissue above it rather than inflating the surface.
Voluma is generally too firm for the tear trough, which needs a soft, low-water-binding product placed with great care. If under-eye hollowing is your concern, we will assess whether the right answer is a finer filler there, cheek support to lift the area indirectly, or neither. The under-eye is the least forgiving area of the face and we treat it conservatively.
