Injectables cannot fix texture, pigment or scarring. Those are skin-quality problems, and they need skin-quality treatment.
There is a useful division in aesthetic medicine that is rarely explained to patients. Injectables treat movement and volume. Skin treatments treat the skin itself. They solve different problems, and no amount of Botox or filler improves texture, pore size, pigmentation or scarring.
The great majority of what people call ageing skin is photoageing — cumulative UV damage rather than chronological age. It degrades collagen and elastin, disrupts pigment production, and thickens the outer layer unevenly. In Los Angeles this accumulates faster than most patients realize.
Which is why the single highest-value intervention is not a treatment at all. Daily broad-spectrum sunscreen does more for your skin over a decade than any procedure, and it protects whatever you spend on treatment. We would rather say that plainly than sell around it.
Acne scarring and texture → RF microneedling. The radiofrequency energy reaches the fibrous tissue tethering scars, which needling alone does not. A course of three to four sessions.
Dullness, tone and general quality → EGF microneedling or a PRP facial. Gentler, shorter downtime, aimed at how skin looks rather than structural change.
Mild laxity alongside texture → RF microneedling, which tightens as well as resurfaces.
Dryness, sensitivity, or an event this week → a 24K gold facial. Hydrating and calming with no downtime — but honestly, it does not remodel collagen.
Deep static folds or lost volume → these are not skin problems. That is filler or Sculptra.
This matters clinically. Aggressive lasers and deep chemical peels carry real risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation in Fitzpatrick IV–VI skin — persistent dark patches that can take months to fade. RF microneedling is considerably safer because the energy is delivered below the surface and does not target melanin, and PRP involves no heat or light at all. We select accordingly and will tell you directly if something is not appropriate for your skin.
We start with your skin — thickness, laxity, pigment behaviour, scarring, sun history, and how it has healed from previous treatment. The plan follows from that rather than from whatever device we happen to own.
Dr. Daniel Moghadam performs and supervises these treatments personally. Device settings and treatment depth are clinical decisions, particularly in deeper skin tones where the wrong parameters cause lasting pigment change.
Skin quality changes through collagen remodelling, which takes months. We will tell you how many sessions something realistically needs rather than implying one appointment transforms your skin.
No. Botox relaxes muscles and filler restores volume — neither affects texture, pore size, pigmentation or scarring. Those are skin-quality problems needing treatments that work on the skin itself, such as RF microneedling, EGF microneedling or PRP. Patients frequently come in asking for injectables when a skin treatment is what would actually help.
Daily broad-spectrum sunscreen, and it is not close. Most of what people experience as ageing skin is cumulative UV damage rather than chronological ageing. Sunscreen prevents further damage and protects the results of anything else you invest in. We would rather tell you that than sell around it.
Most skin treatments work as a course of three to four sessions spaced four to six weeks apart, with results continuing to build for three to six months afterward as collagen remodels. Significant acne scarring often needs more. Single-session transformation is not something we will promise.
RF microneedling is usually the strongest option, because the radiofrequency energy reaches the fibrous tethers beneath rolling and boxcar scars that surface treatments cannot. Deep ice-pick scars often need additional approaches such as subcision. Expect meaningful improvement over a course rather than complete erasure.
Some are considerably safer than others. RF microneedling and PRP are among the safest for Fitzpatrick IV–VI skin because neither targets melanin. Aggressive lasers and deep chemical peels carry genuine risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Dr. Moghadam selects treatment and settings based on your skin type and will tell you plainly if something is not appropriate.
A 24K gold facial is safe two to three days beforehand — hydrating, calming, no downtime. Avoid microneedling, laser and injectables within two weeks of anything important, since redness, flaking, swelling and bruising are all unpredictable.
Yes, and it matters more than most patients expect. In-clinic treatment every few weeks cannot outweigh what you do daily. A sensible routine — sunscreen, a retinoid if your skin tolerates one, and gentle cleansing — substantially improves what treatments achieve.
A hydrating facial will make your skin look better for a week or two, which is genuinely useful before an event. Structural change — texture, scarring, collagen — requires a course of treatment and months of remodelling. We will be clear about which you are buying.
